Live Action Role Playing (LARP) Events
at Mountain Run Winery
Mountain Run Winery, Virginia's largest Live Action Role Playing site, hosts more than a dozen LARP events each year, featuring players from the realms of Darkon, Dagorhir, Zorn Vongal, Amtgard, Sundering LARP & LARP Adventures. The winery grounds consist of 15+ acres of fields, 12 acres of forest, complete with trails and small forest village, hillfort, fighting ring, feast hall, two taverns, showers, and plenty of unique terrain features, making for a perfect backdrop for LARPs.

What is a LARP?
Live Action Role-Playing is a game where participants physically portray their characters, often within a fantasy setting, and engage in simulated combat using foam or latex weapons. LARPs can be day events or week-long affairs, and camping, feasting and recreating together is an important part of the experience. LARPs vary in their focus on immersion, the intensity of their combat, the use of magic and costumes, however all LARPs have safety and inclusivity as core values. While some LARPs might have a place for children at their events, nearly all participants are adults.
Why LARP?
LARPs allow us to step outside of our regular identity and to step into the role of a character of our choosing. Our characters allow us to express our creativity in designing our costumes or creating props, our courage and honor during combat, our graciousness when interacting with other players, including some who have chosen to play an opposing faction. We fight, we sing, we feast, and we share tales of glory around the campfire with a goblet of cider or a horn of mead. When we LARP, we become more than who we are in our mundane lives, or perhaps we finally have a chance to act closer to who we actually believe we are to be.

Darkon is a LARP that features full-contact combat with foam props that are made to look like medieval weapons. Darkon hosts regularly scheduled events, including day battles, tournaments, campouts, and feasts.

Dagorhir Battle Games is the oldest and arguably the largest live-action roleplay / combat organization in the United States, with chapters in nearly every state from Maine to Hawaii, and several others around the globe. AMTGARD:
Amtgard is a LARP community with a focus on team fighting games using foam weapons. We offer a Roleplay environment with a Medieval Sword & Sorcery Fantasy flavor, and allow for playing many different "classes" during battles, each having a collection of abilities & spells, with effects defined in the Amtgard ruleset. You swing the foam sword, and speak the incantation for your spell. Our experience doesn't end at combat, however! We have many non-combat roleplay opportunities; communities of creative people practicing a wide variety of crafts, such as sewing garb, writing poems, drawing art, constructing foam weapons and armor, and so much more.
First and foremost, we are a network of friends sharing in the fun experiences we create every weekend, with locations in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and many other states across the country.
